Home / Usan - Angus
Usan beach is a coastal area mainly made up of Basalt rocks, the beach is made up of small and large pebbles, you may be looking to find agate having been washed out of the basalt layer. The rocks are quite good to explore rock pools but be careful as the rocks can me shape also the tide may take you by surprise. Sea fishing from the edge of the basalt layer is said to be good as it drops suddenly to quite a depth and large species of fish come here to feed. You can find parking at Mains of Usan farm, but please remember that this is a working farm so be respectful of the farm. It is said that Vikings landed here so the site may have protection status, the old building and strangely placed graves which are surrounded by large walls also maybe of interest. From the farms the walk to Scurdie Ness light house can be done via the beach or along beside the fields, remember the country code, remember to leave things as you find them, there maybe cattle in the field so remember some cattle maybe dangerous, but if you stay on the path then you will have a lovely walk to the light house which is around a mile or so.
